Okay, I was furious with myself because I spent all day planning out the exact time line of events for the death of Sokka's mother through Zuko forcing him to talk about it for the first time before I realized that I was probably never going to use that information.
So, I decided to make a thread specifically for the discussing of your RPG characters story in the modern world. Post things that are interesting (or not) that you like that you're probably going to end up not being able to use in the RPG. Then we can all know it and draw from and thus probably use the characters better.
Okay? Okay.

Ok, well every time Yue references some snotty guy from her old school, she's talking about Hahn.
(Obvious but I thought I'd state it.)

Okay the basic story as I thought it up today during classes:
Sokka's mother went to visit her cousin, Yana, in New York. Her cousin had just had a baby. Originally, Hakoda was supposed to go with her and Sokka and Katara were going to stay with Bato. When Katara came down with a mild fever, however, the parents decided that Hakoda would stay with her and she could take Sokka since they would be back just before school started.
They stayed in New York City for a couple of weeks, and two nights before they were supposed to go home they were going to go see a play. His mother said she had a headache and didn't want to go, but Sokka pleaded with her because he really wanted to see it. She gave in, eventually, and they both enjoyed the show.
As they were walking back, the ended up taking a wrong turn down an alley. There they were attacked by a gang of teenage firebenders, who demanded their valuables. When they didn't have any, they decided they were going too...take...Sokka's mother instead. Sokka, being ten, attacked one of them when his mother cried out.
The gang turned on him, and his mother used her body to shield him. He was still horribly beaten, but she got the worst of it. The firebenders leave when they see she is dieing, but Sokka stays with her. She tells him to be a good boy and that she loves him as he's holding her hand, and then she dies.
Sokka refuses to believe that she's dead, and runs out into the street begging people for help. He is ignored, and he sits down and starts to cry. A kind lady, who has a boy about Sokka's age, stops and asks him if he's lost. He takes her to his mother, and she calls an ambulance.
Once they get to the hospital, the doctor proclaimes her dead. Sokka spazes out when they try to take her body away and has to be sedated. When he wakes up, Bato is there. Seeing he's awake, Bato begins to talk to him but Sokka finds he doesn't want to talk back because once he starts talking they're going to make him tell the story.
He falls back to sleep, and when he wakes up the second time Katara and Zuko are there. They're both talking to him and trying to distract him, but he can easily here Bato and Hakoda arguing outside. Bato is saying Hakoda needs to see his son, but Hakoda doesn't think he can handle it. This makes Sokka feel even worse because he thinks his mother's death was his fault and so he wants to talk even less.
He's transfered to a hospital closer to home until he's fully recovered, and the doctor recommends Hakoda take him to a psychitrist because he still hasn't spoken a word. School has resumed by this point, and Sokka spents two months of school and appointments not speaking a word.
The psychiatrist recommends that Hakoda have Sokka checked into a clinc for a short period of time so that Sokka can have round the clock care. Hakoda and Bato are discussing this when Zuko overhears. Fearing that they are going to take Sokka away forever, Zuko forces his friend to talk by accussing him of being a sissy amoung other things.
...And that's the story. Poor Sokka *hugs him*.
