"No," Meng replied with a smile. "I just help out by greeting guests and giving out snacks if they have to wait. It's not all that bad."
Meng looked around the classroom as the bell rang. She hadn't noticed all the other students that had filed in over the past few minutes. There was still no sign of the teacher, though.

"Sounds boring to me."
The classroom quieted as the teacher, a young female in her twenties, walked in through the door. She set her things down on her desk and pulled out the class list.
"Good morning, class," she greeted. "I'd like to start off with taking roll. See if I can start learning your names. Aimi."
A girl with black hair raised her hand. "Here."
"Arisa."
"Here." Arisa lifted her hand slightly.
"Miss Arisa, I'll ask you once to take your feet off your desk."
Arisa took her feet off her desk and stuck her tongue out at the teacher when she had looked away.

"Just head down to the office," she said pointing the way, "There's a sign-up sheet down there. All you have to do is sign-up then show up after school." She smiled at the two of them, "I'm happy you guys are doing this. This is going to be so much fun!"

"An absolute blast," Sokka said with only a slightly forced grin- thankful that Katara had not overheard their conversation or guessed their motives. "They'll probably make me do math, but it's okay. We'll go sign up at lunch."

Katara resisted the urge to hug her brother, "Oh this is going to be so great! You won't regret this, guys," she said beaming.

"Yeah...great..." Sokka leaned against the locker again, adjusting his backpack. "You know, my instincts are already telling me that this is going to be the best school year ever. I'm kind of excited now."

Most of the period was spent with the teacher learning each of the students' names and then explaining what they would be doing during the school year.
Halfway through, Meng felt something slide under her arm. She looked down and saw a folded piece of paper. She opened it to find a note.
Hey, you wanna go to the high school during lunch? I can intraduse introduce you to my sister and we can check out what the high school is like.
Meng checked to see if the teacher was looking before scribbling down, Sure.

"You and your instincts." Zuko scowled, trying to fix his much abused hoodie hood.

Katara's smile fell, "Your instincts?" She put her hands on her hips and asked, "Are these the same instincts that that told you to slam into the Seniors your freshmen year?"

"Hey my instincts had nothing to do with that! That was all the falt of my still growing feet." Sokka pulled his face into a pout, "anyway, you shouldn't insult my instincts. They can be right sometimes."

Katara looked at Zuko and covered her mouth, trying to keep from laughing.

Arisa yawned. Would this class ever end? She looked over at Meng, who was drawing some kind of flower in her notebook. She looked at her own doodle in front of her - a crude drawing of their English teacher with the word "BORING" scribbled across the paper. She couldn't wait until lunch.

Sokka scowled at both of them. "Alright, fine, don't believe me. But when my insticts turn out to be right, don't come crawling to me for forgiveness."

Suki bolted through the double doors on the side of the school, her messenger bag beating against her leg. She raced down the hallway while pulling out a crumpled sheet of paper that was her schedule.
Locating her locker, Suki skidded to a stop in front of it, entering the combination and stuffing her after lunch folders and notebooks into her locker.
She glanced at the clock (she had lost her watch some time ago) and sighed; she still had a few minutes before class began.
Suki walked down the hallway at a much slower pace, not looking forward to her first hour--Chemistry. She hoped the rumors about Zuko the Explosive Wonder weren't true, as she suspected he would be in her class. She knew Sokka was, and was aware that the pair were practically glued at the hip as far as classes went.
Suki spotted Sokka, Zuko and Katara standing by the freshmen lockers down an adjacent hallway. Suki knew Sokka--not well, but she got along with him. There had been the possibility that they had had a "thing" in middle school, but that had quickly passed. Suki knew Katara from when she had shadowed her brother the previous as part of the school's new "Getting to Know High School" program.
Giving the clock another fleeting look, Suki made her way towards the threesome.
"Heya!" she called, waving as she walked.

Katara shook her head, still trying not to laugh, "Don't worry Sokka, we won't." She glanced at the clock again, "Hey guys, aren't we going to be late?" Then she spotted a familiar face coming down the hall, "Hey guys, isn't that Suki?"
