So in order to avoid studying for finals I tried my hand at fanfiction and here's my work so far...
Bedtime Story
“But we don’t want to go to bed, Papa!”
Here we go again…
“Yeah, can’t we stay up for another hour?”
The Fire Nation princesses never were fond of their bedtime.
“No,” The Fire Lord said picking both girls up, “Besides, I did let you stay up for another hour, an hour ago.”
“Yeah but…” the girls started in unison.
“No,” The Fire Lord said firmly, reminding himself to not yield to the coming onslaught of pleas and possibly even tears.
“But we’re not even tired,” the younger Kana yawned resting her head on her father’s shoulder.
“Yes you are,” the father nudged the door to the princess’ chamber open with his foot before setting the girls down, “So you’re going to bed.”
“But we can’t go to sleep without Mama here,” the older Ziyala spoke up, “We should stay up until she comes home.”
“Girls, you know your mother is visiting your uncle,” The Fire Lord spoke as he placed a hand on each of the girls’ back and guided them to their beds, “She won’t be back until tomorrow.”
“But who’s going to tell us our bedtime story?” Ziyala asked even as she climbed up into her bed.
Kana tugged on her father’s robes as he tucked his oldest daughter in, “Yeah, we can’t sleep without a bedtime story.”
“Alright,” The Fire Lord sighed lifting the smaller girl up and tucking her into her own bed, “What if I told you a story?”
“You’re going to tell us our bed time story?” Ziyala asked pushing her covers down and sitting up.
“Only if you both promise to go to sleep afterwards,” he said pulling a chair between the two beds and sitting down.
“Ok,” Kana agreed cheerfully as she snuggled deeper under the covers.
“Only if it’s a good story,” Ziyala crossed her arms and leaned against her pillow.
“Fine, what type of story would you two like to hear?”
“A story about the Maiden of the Moon!”
“No, the Island of the Amazons!”
“You only like that one because the Brave Warrior had to wear a dress!”
“Ok, ok,” The Fire Lord raised his hands trying to calm the girls down as he came up with an idea, “Did your mother ever tell you a story about The Blue Spirit?”
Both girls grew quiet and shook their heads.
“Who’s that?”
“Was he a spirit of the Water Tribe?”
“Just listen and I’ll tell you,” the father smiled, enjoying having the complete attention of the girls, “Now this story takes place several years ago, during the time of the great war…”
